I would recommend nothing larger than 800px wide. Just because it fits on one computer, doesn't mean it fits on another or a mobile divice. The banner looks nice but it also doesn't fit on my screen.

If I may make a suggestion, I recommend resizing the entire forum's width to 700 and making banners with the same width. It helps to organize the forum.
